288X Crystal Controlled Signal Generator

I restored this unit as a carry a round generator.  I use it for presentations and restoration labs.  It is much easer to have a spare back up generator than having to removed my HP606a from the work bench.  This unit has AM FM and sweep functions.  It also modulates the AM or FM along with three FM deviations.

The AC DB meter is open at the d'Arsonval movement coil.

Well shielded interior.

IMG_6363.JPG (822070 bytes)This is the stripped out RF output attenuator.  It does not match the schematic.   IMG_6364.JPG (825610 bytes)

I had to modify part of it to match the Schematic to get output on the X1 and X10 scale.

It does not follow the manuals calibration table.  But works great for radio alignments.

IMG_20120502_203134 crop.jpg (163562 bytes) This is a picture of the Hickok in action.  The church where we were conducting the restoration class was locked.  The key holder had an emergency to attend to.  We did not have a key.  So in Ham Radio style we conduced our version of a Field Day.  I found an outside outlet at the front church entrance. We backed up our trucks to the outlet and ran extension cords.  We were testing tubes, troubleshooting restored chassis and conducting alignments all from the back of my pickup truck.

It was a great weather night, warm and sunny (until Sun set).
